What We Learned From Women’s Magazines Cont’d

So what’s the 10-day detox?

The good news from UCLA researchers is that a simple program can rev up fat burning, flush trapped fluids, and help cravings fade away.  This enables automatic slimming, long after the detox is complete.

3 Foods that kill yeast:

Following is a 10-day yeast flush, but even just adding the following trio will lower yeast levels:

Coconut Oil – well, if you’ve read any number of our previous posts you know we’re huge fans of that coconutty yumminessFirst for women also quotes Nigeria’s University College Hospital scientists who tell us that “coconut oil destroys up to 100% of yeast cells on contact (even drug-resistant candida species).  Credit goes to its lauric, caprylic and capric acids — fatty acids that work synergistically to split ope the protective outer wall of yeast cells.  The recommended / proven dose is 3 tablespoons daily, just like it says on Nutiva’s coco oil.  To maximize weight loss, the article continues, use coconut oil as a replacement for other dietary fats like butter and hydrogenated oil when cooking.”

Raw Garlic – Researchers in Malaysia identified two unique antifungal actions of raw garlic. Garlic shuts down the formation of the long branching strands created by yeast to help it grow and spread, as well as force yeast cells to age and die prematurely.   The proven dose: 1 clove of raw garlic daily.

Spices – Aromatic oils in spices contain dozens of biologically active ingredients that can stall yeast growth by turning off the genetic master switch needed to initiate reproduction (don’t forget, yeast is a living organism!)  The proven dose: 1.5 Tablespoons of fresh or 2 teaspoons of dried herbs, daily.  The most powerful include:

  • Thyme
  • Cloves
  • Rosemary
  • Coriander
  • Sage
  • Turmeric
  • Oregano
  • Ginger
  • Curry blends

Cherie Calbom, who also wrote a book about the slimming benefits of Coconut Oil, is quoted: “A juice cleanse provides hundreds of rapidly absorbed micronutrients, yet none of the poor quality carbs that yeast depends upon to survive” (we’re thinking, donuts, white bread rolls, pasta and pizza?) – “this causes candida counts – along with cravings – to plummet, often in as little as three days”. !!  Other perks: improved energy and digestive function, less headaches and join pain, clearer skin and fewer menopausal symptoms.

Sipping unlimited vegetable juices and low-fructose fruit juices, plus unlimited raw or lightly steamed veggies and some lean protein, if you choose.  BUT!  For optimal results, avoid all sugar, simple carbs, daily and mold- or yeast-containing foods (including alcohol, bread, and dried fruit).

As always, checking with your doctor is recommended, since this cleanse can result in rapid weight loss and detoxification.  To further eradicate yeast, take a probiotic supplement for at least three months.  We like New Chapter;  another excellent, gold standard but rather costly option is Natren, found in the refrigerated section of your health food store, or order online for two-day shipping on ice.

So – clearly this is a lot less regimented, detailed, or hard core than Ani’s fare, but it could be nice for a change or a break in a more strict regime.  You can find the full article we’ve quoted, here:  First for women, September 6, 2010
